Fire Dept Station #5 responded to 9,549 incidents in 2008. In January of 2009 there were 120 incidents. There have been 3 chimney fires recently. This is caused by creosol build up in the chimney. Chimneys should be cleaned every 1-2 years by a chimney sweep or kits can be bought had your local hardware store to do it yourself.

Dept: Several suspects have been arrested for breaking into residences. Breaking and entering in cars is still a problem. Most car doors have been left unlocked. Please remember to lock car doors and take valuables inside your house or lock in trunk.
This is the time of year we will see and increase in people going door-to-door offering to do yard work. If the do not have a city license with a placard call the police (911), if they do have a placard you do not have to answer you door.
Most magazine sales door-to-door are not legitimate. Be aware around malls and shopping centers for people looking for a handout.
Shawn: Bert Turner reports that work to restore the Old Mill has started.
Celeste: City leaf pick-up will continue to March the 6th. You have to call and schedule a pick up.
THEA will have a student art show. Lakewood Elem. will be on display May 1st, NLR West May 4th-15th, and NLR school district NLR Elem school art show will be May 18th-29th. THEA is located at 401 Main street North Little Rock.

Mayor Hays is in Washington regarding the stimulus package and money that will be available for North Little Rock.

A presentation was given for making a photo inventory of belongings and personal items that have value to the homeowner.
Next meeting will be Thursday March 19th at the Lakewood Methodist Church at 7pm.

Leaf Pickup

Please spread the word that the city leaf pickup is on an on call basis only now. If you need leaves picked up please call Public Works @ 371-8345 by March 6th. The equipment will be stored for the season after March 6th. Any remaining leaves will have to be bagged after March 6th.

Taxpayer Advocacy Panel
On February 12, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) wants to hear from Little Rock area residents. You and members of your organization are invited to attend the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) Community Town Hall Meeting. We hope you will encourage your members to participate in this unique opportunity to share feedback on IRS customer service practices with local TAP members and the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS).
TAP is a federal advisory committee created to listen to taxpayers, identify taxpayer issues and propose suggestions for change to the IRS.
What: TAP Community Town Hall Meeting
Event highlights include:
· One-hour dialogue with taxpayers to solicit taxpayer concerns about IRS customer service.
· Opportunity for taxpayers to meet TAP members from their area who will listen to their comments and drive change in IRS service practices.
· Attendance by TAP members, National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, and Local Taxpayer Advocates to speak with taxpayers about their concerns.

Lakewood Neighborhood Group meeting
Just a reminder that we will be meeting in Room W-2 at the Lakewood United Methodist Church on Thursday February 19th, 2009 @ 7pm. We will be covering our normal police and fire reports. Also we will have Bedford Camera attending and presenting 'how to' on home inventory. This is another tool you can use to protect your property against theft and damage.

Restaurant Week in Argenta
Restaurant Week in Argenta is coming January 26-31. It is a promotion of the Argenta Downtown Council and the Argenta restaurants. Restaurant Week in Argenta encourages existing patrons to enjoy their favorite restaurants at special promotional prices while encouraging new diners to the diverse Argenta restaurant scene by offering a full week of promotions at participating restaurants.
The participating restaurants offering a two course, eight-dollar lunch are: Café La Pace, Cornerstone Pub & Grill, Cregeen's Irish Pub, Margo's Catfish Diner & Deli, Reno's Argenta Café and Starving Artist Café. The restaurants offering a three course, twenty five dollar dinner are: Benihana Japanese Steakhouse, Ristorante Capeo, Riverfront Steakhouse, Starving Artist Café and Valentine's Italian Restaurant.
